The 13 Kibbe Body Types : Discover Your Unique Image Identity

You are currently viewing The 13 Kibbe Body Types : Discover Your Unique Image Identity

The following post is based on the book Metamorphosis, written by Image stylist David Kibbe in the year 1987.

The Kibbe body types or archetypes were invented by an image consultant David Kibbe who published the book “David Kibbe’s Metamorphosis: Discover Your Image Identity and Dazzle as Only You Can,” in 1987. In this book, Kibbe focuses mainly on Bone structure, Body flesh and Facial features. Kibbe emphasizes the balance between yin and yang in a person and categorize them as 5 main families- Dramatic, Natural, Classic, Gamine and Romantic with 8 subtypes which gives a total of 13 body types.

Before we explore the 13 body types in detail, let’s start with a simple overview of what each type is and how they are grouped. I have written an introduction post – An introduction to Kibbe body types. You can read it first here to get a general idea on how Kibbe has grouped these body types and what was the criteria taken into consideration.

Now lets us explore all the 13 Kibbe body types along with their clothing lines and what suits them the best.
